*This Process is for Kitchens, Bathrooms & Basement Projects.

Step 1: Educate

Before Calling Us

At Lotus Home Improvement, we believe in open communication and building strong client relationships. That's why we want to ensure a smooth and successful project from the very beginning. This initial phone call is a no-obligation opportunity for us to learn more about your project and discuss whether we're the right fit for you.

During our first phone call, we’ll talk about your project including both your wants and needs. We will also talk about the type of contractor you’re looking to hire. We understand that we’re not always the right fit for everyone and each project. Let’s talk about it and find out together. To help us best understand your needs we may ask the following questions,

  • This initial call will take 15-20 minutes

Can you tell us a little about the location of your home? (We serve the Northern Chicago Suburbs and want to ensure we can effectively serve your area.)

What project are you looking to complete? (e.g., Kitchen remodel, bathroom renovation, basement finishing)

What are your goals for this remodeling project? (e.g., Increase home value, improve functionality, create a more enjoyable living space)

When are you looking to have the project completed? (Do you have a deadline in mind?)

What is your estimated budget for this project? (Our pricing page can provide some helpful guidance.)

Are you planning to get a permit?

Have you ever remodeled your home before? How was that experience?

What is the number one thing you are looking for in a contractor?

During your research for this project, are you talking with other contractors?

At the end of our conversation together we will determine if it make sense to set up an appointment for the discovery meeting.  If it doesn’t seem like we are the right fit for your project, we will try to refer you to another qualified contractor that can serve you better. We understand that choosing the right contractor can feel overwhelming. We're here to help you make an informed decision and ensure a smooth and successful remodeling experience.

We look forward to speaking with you soon!

Step 2: Discover

Your Initial Walk-Through with Lotus Home Improvement

The initial walk-through is an important step in our collaborative process. It's an opportunity for us to get to know you and understand your vision for your home improvement project. During this 30-60 minute visit, we'll discuss your goals and aspirations for your project, take any required measurements of your space, explore your budget and discuss ways to achieve your desired outcome within your budget, and address any concerns or questions you may have. We understand that embarking on a home remodeling project can bring up questions and concerns, and we're here to provide the answers and reassurance you need. This initial walk-through is a no-obligation meeting, designed to help us learn more about your project and determine if Lotus Home Improvement is the right fit for your needs. We look forward to meeting you and discussing your home improvement dreams.

There are 3 possible outcomes from this meeting

  • Outcome 1: We set up an additional meeting at our showroom location to go over some design options for your space, create a basic design layout, and a 3D design rendering. Please take a moment to look at our 3D Rendering Policy here
  • Outcome 2: In some cases, people bypass outcome 1 and move right into contract (we will discuss options that fit each individual project). During this step, we will review material selections appropriate for you project, review a preliminary scope of work and provide a refined estimated budget.  For some projects, we will create an estimate so you can get an idea of how your selection choices can affect the final price.
  1. We will talk about design ideas that could affect the price.
  2. If the preliminary scope of work and investment range are agreed, we move to the Design & Selection Phase.
  • Outcome 3: We agree that we are not the right fit for your project.

Step 3: Design

1. Schematic Design Ideas:

We'll work closely with you to explore different design possibilities. We'll create a few "rough drafts" showcasing potential layouts and design solutions. This allows us to visualize your ideas and narrow down the options that best suit your needs and style. We'll also present 3D renderings of key areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and basement bars, giving you a realistic preview of the final result.

2. Interior Material Selections:

Once you've selected your preferred design, we'll move on to the exciting phase of material selections. This is where we'll bring your vision to life! We'll guide you through the selection of high-quality materials, including:

Cabinets: Style, finish, hardware

Countertops: Granite, quartz, marble, etc.

Flooring: Hardwood, tile, carpet, etc.

Plumbing fixtures: Faucets, sinks, tubs, showers

Tile: Backsplashes, shower walls, flooring

Making these selections upfront ensures a smooth and efficient construction process.

3. Estimating & Documentation:

While you're making your material selections, our team will be diligently working behind the scenes. We'll finalize all the construction details, including:

Detailed drawings and plans: Including dimensions, wall sections, and other important specifications.

Permit applications(if applicable): Ensuring your project complies with all local building codes.

Cost estimation: Providing you with a detailed and accurate project estimate.

We believe that thorough planning and clear communication are essential for a successful project. We're committed to keeping you informed and involved throughout the entire process.

Step 4: Build

Turning ideas on paper into reality begins at this phase.

After your permit is approved (if needed), we schedule and start your project. Our craftsmen arrive at your home each day, equipped to transform your ideas into reality. Marcus, your assigned project manager, will regularly meet with you and our contractors to review the progress. With our skilled tradesmen, you're in good hands. We're also ready to answer any questions you have as the project moves forward.

Permit Submittal

We will prepare and submit to the appropriate building department any necessary permit applications. This can take anywhere from two weeks to two months, depending on where you live.

Pre-Construction Meeting

Prior to showing up for the start of the project, we will schedule a "Pre-Construction Meeting" where we review all of the details about your project, and make sure we are all still on the same page. This meeting includes everything from parking and dumpster location to accommodating pets. We will go over any questions you may have about the project schedule.

Project Communication

Probably the main reason why we have so many happy clients is clear, timely communication during the project. Marcus, your assigned project manager, visits the project daily and will go over any questions he or she may have. We also utilize the online scheduling software to communicate back and forth.

Project Manager

Our in-house construction staff will take over from here. Marcus will be your daily point person for your project. He will be performing and scheduling the work, answering questions, problem solving, updating the schedule, etc. Remember, with our process, 99% of the details are decided on in the design phase. This helps the Build step go much smoother.

Step 5: Enjoy!

Our Commitment to Quality

At Lotus, we stand behind our work. That's why we offer a 1-year workmanship warranty on all our projects.

What does this mean for you? Peace of mind. Even after your project is complete, your relationship with Lotus continues. If any issues arise within the warranty period, we'll be there to address them promptly and ensure your satisfaction.
